The Tombs of Atuan is Book Two of Ursula K. In The Tombs of Atuan, Le Guin has switched entirely from writing a book about Ged's coming of age, to a series that explores the development of females as well. The Tombs of Atuan was given to me by a friend, who introduced me to the series, but I couldn't find cool-looking covers for the other books except A Wizard of Earthsea (I have the purple edition). Last night I began "The Tombs of Atuan" [1970, Simon and Schuster Pocket Since "The Tombs of Atuan" is the second of the cycle, and it seems to stand alone, I wonder whether it's necessary to read them in sequence. A couple of months ago, I was in Powerbooks looking at the sale bin and I happened upon a copy of The Tombs of Atuan, the second book in the Earthsea series. A Wizard of Earthsea The Earthsea Cycle Book 1, Ursula K. Le Guin: The Tombs of Atuan (Book 2 of the Earthsea Cycle) was one of the few novels I read as a very young child that utterly floored and moved me. The books of the Earthsea Cycle are A Wizard of Earthsea (1968), The Tombs of Atuan.
